Description: A vagrant (Jan Bijvoet) enters the lives of an arrogant upper-class family, turning their lives into a psychological nightmare in the process.

Review: Director Alex van Warmerdam wanted to make a suggestive film, although that’s what he said. When he meant an undeveloped basic idea, he succeeded.
The film follows Marina and Richard, who live together with their three kids and a nanny in an enormous mansion. This family, symbolizing egoism and arrogance, is startled by te mysterious Camiel Borgman. This man enters the family’s mind and life as a demon.
The plot sounds really interesting, but the movie experience isn’t. The biggest weakness is the script. There is hardly any tension in the confrontation, because the family is no game for the uninvited guest. You could say that was intentional. But the characters are very weak and it feels all kinda cheap. And all the magical and supernatural elements just feel out of place. The movie misses logic.
The movie is filled with absurdism and surrealism. I don’t know where the director wanted to go with all this. I just simply didn’t understand this film fully, it just left me with a weird feeling and unsatisfied feeling.
