Description: A group of online chat room friends find themselves haunted by a mysterious, supernatural force using the account of their dead friend.

Review: “Unfriended” is a different kind of horror film. Through Facebook, Skype, Spotify and Google we follow a group of online chat room friends. We see it through the eyes of Blaire. We only get to see her when she is in a Skype conversation with her friends, on the screen. But we do get to know her a bit through everything she does on her laptop. We also literally see her thoughts, when she types them as a response to her friends. And how they change sometimes when she thinks about it.
Blaire and her friends are talking about Laura Barns, a friend who killed herself exactly one year ago. It’s on the internet and there are compromising videos on the net as well. Blaire and her friends all have some connection to why Laura committed suicide. And some supernatural being knows about it and starts haunting them.
It’s all very original, but everything is very illogical too. When they are high school kids, where are all of their parents? Absent parents in horror films always bug me, but we are looking at six teens that are all alone the entire time. At least that’s what I think, because any parent would check on their kid when they hear them screaming. And we never really get the motive of the gruesome actions either. It’s all very vague.
“Unfriended” is definitely something else, it separates itself from other horror films. But the movie never gets really scary. And or a horror movie, that’s a necessity.
